For all those who have already said “yes to the dress” or will soon say “yes to the dress,” this goes out to you!

No matter what stage of wedding (pre, mid, or post), living a healthy lifestyle should be a priority. Fitness, for me, includes a healthy mind and body. Loving yourself and treating your body well is essential to a happy you. If there is one thing I truly hope you take away from reading this, it’s that making time for healthy living is essential – may I even say non-negotiable.

Here are a few things to incorporate into your life to help this happen. But, I will warn you – it does cause happiness! 😉

1. Drink up! Staying hydrated is SO important. I know this is something you’ve heard a thousand and one times, but really, ask yourself how much water are you drinking a day. My sweet husband is like the water police patrol. If I am ever not feeling tip top shape or sluggish, his first response is, “Here, let me get you some water.” Drinking water is now my go-to response for almost any initial problem I’m facing. It can make you feel so refreshed, it improves your mood and state of mind. “Even mild dehydration has been shown to negatively impact moods.” So, go get a big gulp-of water!

2. Meditate Daily. It was not until the last couple years, I have discovered this whole new level of contentment because of meditation. Don’t let it scare (or bore) you away. At first it was hard for me to start meditating because I felt like I was wasting time and I just couldn’t sit still for that long, but I started with just 5 minutes of meditation practice and increased it to 15-20 minutes of meditation at a time per day. I can’t even tell you the difference it has made in my life. With meditation, the physiology undergoes positive changes and literally every cell in the body is filled with more energy. It lowers blood pressure, increases serotonin production, improves the immune system, and brings creativity, peace, and joy into your life. Becoming mindful and being able to stay present is a foundational rock that I never want to lose. I encourage you to just take a few minutes each day this week to try it out. (Some apps that got me hooked are “Breathe,” “Relax+,” and “Calm.”)

3. Move that body! Schedule a time with yourself each day to workout. There are so many workouts out there- YouTube channels, DVD workouts, group gym classes, sports, or just being outside-there’s no excuses. Working out does not have to be a grand event each day. Even just a 15-20 minute workout can make all the difference. Who doesn’t like those post workout endorphins? I find that giving yourself permission to shop and find one fun workout outfit helps. Once you put it on and just commit to starting, you’re guaranteed to finish it out. If not anything else, turn on an uplifting song, and stretch your muscles. You will not only feel renewed, but it will bring nutrients to your muscles. You don’t have to be perfect, just consistent. Move and Repeat.

So, what are you waiting for? Find yourself an accountability partner, that bridesmaid or future spouse, and commit to living healthy every single day. It will make all the difference in your life and marriage.
